PFC Zachary R. Gullett Scholarships awarded for 2014

The PFC Zachary R Gullett Memorial Scholarship for 2014 was awarded to Marissa Hollen.
Hollen is the daughter of Amy Hollen of Hillsboro. She will be attending the University of Cincinnati majoring in forensic psychology.
This scholarship is given to a senior each year upon graduation from Hillsboro High School to be used in pursuit of a higher level education in law enforcement or criminal justice.
This year, two seniors also received “Let Us Never Forget” scholarships in memory of PFC Zachary R. Gullett. The recipients of these scholarships were Kelli Burwinkel and Michaela Chaney.
Burwinkel is the daughter of Philip and Kati Burwinkel of Hillsboro. She will be attending The Ohio State University, where she will be pursuing a double major in Japanese language/culture and anthropological science.
Chaney is the daughter of Chuck and Linda Chaney of Hillsboro. She will be attending Shawnee State University and majoring in occupational therapy.
The “Let Us Never Forget” scholarship is given yearly in memory of our local heroes that have given their all. The Yellow Ribbon Support Foundation and the Let Us Never Forget Scholarship Foundation provide this scholarship.
Preference for both scholarships is given to students who exhibits by their behavior and scholastic achievement that he/she strives to further their knowledge and educational experience in their chosen profession.
Certain characteristics of the student are considered by the selection committee as follows: responsibility to themselves, their family, school and community; honesty; dependability; sportsmanship in their dealings with others on a daily basis; punctuality; perseverance; and loyalty.
Each of these students received a $1,000 scholarship.
