Northeast Ohio school board member named interim OSBA president-elect

A northeast Ohio school board member will serve as the Ohio School Boards Association’s (OSBA) interim 2021 president-elect.
OSBA’s Board of Trustees on June 17 approved the nomination of Susie Lawson, a member of the Tri-County Educational Service Center (ESC) and Wayne County Schools Career Center boards of education.
The OSBA Nominating Committee selected Lawson to serve the remaining one-year term of Robert M. Heard Sr., a member of the Cleveland Municipal Board of Education. The need for an interim president-elect arose when Heard became the association’s president on May 8.
The president-elect’s duties include serving on OSBA’s Board of Trustees and Executive Committee and chairing the Legislative Platform Committee and Federal Relations Network.
Lawson, who served as OSBA president in 2014, has been actively involved in the association, earning numerous awards, including the Master Board Member Award in 2006, a lifetime distinction. In 2002, she was named to the All-Ohio School Board, the association’s highest honor.
“Susie has literally served on every OSBA committee and as a liaison to numerous organizations,” OSBA Chief Executive Officer Rick Lewis said. “She has served OSBA as its Northeast Region Executive Committee president three times and has been a member of the Board of Trustees since 2006. She also has represented Ohio at the national level, sharing her time and expertise with the National School Boards Association.”
Lawson’s board service began 34 years ago when she was elected to the Chippewa Local Schools Board of Education in Wayne County. She served on the board for 18 years before being elected to the Tri-County ESC board in 2005. She has served on the Wayne County Schools Career Center board since 2006.
