McClain FFA team wins state Soil Judging contest

The McClain FFA chapter was represented at the State Agricultural Soil Judging contest on Oct. 8 by Ethan Cockerill, Bryn Karnes, Eric Anderson and Emily Jones.

This team evaluated the soil through an understanding of basic soil differences to determine suitable soil and water conservation practices and the proper treatments for the soil.

Out of the 45 teams that participated, McClain's team placed first. Ethan Cockerill was the highest-scoring individual in this contest, placing first out of 162 individuals.

The team qualifies to move on to the National Land Judging contest in Oklahoma in May of 2017. We are proud of these accomplishments and wish the best of luck to all of the team's members.
