McClain Daily Roar debuts

Lead Summary
By
Ronald Houseman, Gabe Martinez and Elijah McMurry-
The Daily Roar, McClain’s daily source for school news and entertainment, debuted this year under the direction and production of TV and radio teacher Drew Hamilton. The Daily Roar provides daily announcements to the high school students and staff during academy period and has been well-received.

“(The Daily Roar) is going pretty smoothly,” Hamilton said. “It has been a learning curve. (The students) have figured out what has worked and what hasn’t worked. They try to improve, always try to keep the audience engaged and try to be creative. I’m lucky to have a good group of kids who want to look for new things to do and come up with ideas.”

Produced in the TV and radio room, the Daily Roar’s editing, scripting and recording is done by members of the class and Hamilton. These announcements are ready to be uploaded to the McClain Daily Roar YouTube channel by second period each day.

Announcement requests can be made by going to McClain’s website (http://www.greenfield.k12.oh.us/mcclainhighschool_home.aspx), clicking the “announcement request” tab and typing in their request. The Daily Roar cast will then compose their scripts and record the show.

Hamilton said that there are many steps that go into the production process, including (but not limited to):

• Scripts are gathered.

• Microphones are prepared for use.

• Show is recorded.

• Show is edited by Nick Everhart.

Before completing any of the prior mentioned tasks, the cast starts off their morning with the Pledge of Allegiance. The cast tries to finish all of these tasks by 7:50 a.m.

The show is recorded and uploaded without many difficulties, although there are a few rules for the class:

• Students must write school-appropriate scripts.

• Students must inform first, entertain second.

Students are encouraged to watch the Daily Roar whenever they feel curious about school happenings, and along with that, it’s shown by the academy teachers during second period. The production can be found daily on YouTube by searching “McClain Daily Roar.” Make sure to like and subscribe and click the bell to get notifications.

“I’m looking forward to where the show will go. Being the first year, we had no expectations,” Hamilton said. “We have 12 kids in the Daily Roar class, and some of that was me begging kids to be in it. Now, I have kids coming up asking to be in the Daily Roar class next year, so I think this is going to stick around for a while and is something we can build on each year.”
