Lynchburg-Clay FFA participates in public speaking contests

The Lynchburg-Clay FFA Chapter was pleased to have several participants compete in the Highland County Subdistrict public speaking contest.

The contests were held at Fairfield High School on Feb. 17, 2015.

The Creed participants included: Abby Blankenship, Katie Henderson, Chad Fenner, and Eric Young. For the Creed contest, the first year FFA members memorize and recite the FFA Creed that was written by E.M. Tiffany. At the conclusion of their presentation, the judges ask questions based on the Creed. Due to Abby’s first place title she was able to move onto the districts which were held February 26th at Fayetteville High School.

Our chapter had two participants who competed in the Beginning Prepared Speaking Contest. The participants were Quinn Walker and Lucas Brown. For the Beginning Prepared Speaking Contest, members are required to compose their own speech based on an agriculture topic, memorize the speech, and present it to the judges. Afterwards, the judges do ask questions pertaining to the speech topic. The speech has a time frame between 5-7 minutes in length.

The Lynchburg-Clay FFA Chapter is proud of all who entered the contest and hope to see even more members work hard and participate next year.
