For the 10th year in a row, the Lynchburg-Clay Envirothon team is headed to the State Envirothon Competition.

This year’s competition will be June 2-4 at Wilmington College. The Lynchburg-Clay Gold team qualified for the state competition by placing first at the Area 5 Envirothon competition at Battelle-Darby Metro Park on May 9.

Coached by Lynchburg-Clay High School teacher Lara Hamilton, the team includes Gage Thompson, Kylie O’Connor, Team Captain Abigail Shepherd, Autumn Blankenship, and Cloe Williamson.

The competition is designed to stimulate, reinforce and enhance interest in the environment and natural resources among high school students. Envirothon teams are tested on their knowledge of aquatics, forestry, soils, wildlife and a current environmental topic.

This year’s topic is “Roots and Resiliency: Fostering Forest Stewardship in a Canopy of Change.”
