The Hillsboro Area Branch of the American Association of University Women presented scholarships to Pamela Brokaw, Sherry Parker and Amy Wilson.

Since 1992, those scholarships have been awarded on an annual basis to nontraditional college families. The selection is based on academic achievement, clearly stated goals and academic potential.

Pamela Brokaw has worked and cared for animals for many years. She has recently been the Humane Agent for Highland County. She plans to continue her education at a veterinary institute to improve her knowledge and skills in caring for animals.

Sherry Parker, a wife and mother, has been a volunteer for many worthy causes. She has organized successful fundraisers and has worked in a preschool as an assistant leader. She plans to receive her bachelor’s degree in 2016 and eventually work for the American Red Cross.

Amy Wilson has been working in a preschool program and in the college library. She plans to complete her program and eventually be in charge of a day care preschool program.

Funds to support the annual scholarship are raised through the annual Book Sale, which is held in November. The organization depends upon public donations of books and community support of the sale.
