Leesburg Lions honor GOOD students

At their May 16 meeting, the Leesburg Lions Club honored eight Fairfield Local students from grades 5-12 with G.O.O.D. Program Awards.
The G.O.O.D. Program (“Going On Or Defeated”) was started by Ron Derry, an Ohio teacher who, after 18 years of teaching, suddenly went blind. At that point, he dedicated his life to encouraging people to understand that all problems can be overcome.
The concept of the G.O.O.D. Program is to recognize young people who work hard and exhibit standards of good citizenship, personal skills and study habits.
One student from each of the eight grades was chosen by their teachers and received a letter of recommendation from the teachers, a certificate and a G.O.O.D. T-shirt. The senior recipient also received a $500 college scholarship.
This year’s winning students were: John Grimm (5th grade), Kayla Wells (6th grade), Jade Knisley (7th grade), Layne Irvin (8th grade), Alex Everhart (9th grade), Kim Carmean (10th grade), Brandi Fillmore (11th grade), and Megan Sward (12th grade).
