Joseph Watson, Brian Stiers appointed to Shawnee State University Board of Trustees

PORTSMOUTH – At its last meeting, the Shawnee State University Board of Trustees installed Joseph Watson and Brian Stiers as its newest members. The SSU Board of Trustees consists of nine voting members and two student members, appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate.

Watson, of Frankfort, Ohio, was appointed to the Academic and Student Affairs Committee. He is a graduate of Ohio University where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Systems Management and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. Watson also served in the United States military for eight years. He is the President and Chief Executive Office at Petland Inc. in Chillicothe, and has worked as Vice President for multiple companies, such as Horizon PCS and Horizon Telecom and an Account Executive for Cincinnati Bell.

“It’s a pleasure to have been appointed by Governor Kasich to SSU Board of Trustees and I’m looking forward to meeting the staff, students and my fellow trustees at SSU,” said Watson. “Education has always been an important part of my life. My father was a lifelong educator, my mother spent her career working at Ohio University and my wife is a teacher. I believe SSU is the best kept secret in southern Ohio and I look forward to being a part of its bright future.”

Stiers, of Wheelersburg, Ohio, is a student trustee and was appointed to the Finance and Administration Committee. He is a graduate of Wheelersburg High School and is currently a junior in the Respiratory Therapy Program at SSU. Stiers plans to graduate in the spring of 2016.

“What interested me in applying to the student position on the SSU Board of Trustees was the chance to gain experience, build new skills and learn more about SSU while representing the student body,” said Stiers. “I’m looking forward to put forth ideas and be a part of the growth and success of the University.”
