Hilterbran, Johnston earn business co-op honors

Tessa Hilterbran and Conner Johnston, 2013 HHS graduates, have been recognized as the top achievers in the business cooperative program for Hillsboro High School.
Hilterbran, the daughter of Richie and Melissa Hilterbran, received top honors for highest earnings and most hours worked through employment with Pasquale's Pizza during her senior year at HHS.
“Tessa is dedicated and hard-working," Tyler Schraw, owner of Pasquale's Pizza, said. "She never calls off and plans ahead when she needs to schedule off.”
After graduation, Hilterbran was promoted to manager, taking on the responsibilities of scheduling, employee hiring/firing and training.
Hilterbran is grateful for the opportunity the business co-op program provided by being permitted to leave school early to gain work experience and the flexibility to work more hours.

Schraw was also a student of the co-op program, formerly known as DECA, during his senior year at HHS ('07).
Hilterbran will continue her education in the fall at the University of Cincinnati-Clermont to become a surgical technician while maintaining employment at Pasquale's Pizza.
Conner Johnston, the son of Kelly and Jamie Goolsby, received second-place top honors for his earnings and hours worked through employment with Master Feed Mill.
“Conner follows directions and adapts well with the day-to-day activity changes," Steve and Becky Ventura, owners of Master Feed Mill, said. "He is punctual, responsible and accountable to run the drive-thru by himself on Sundays.”
Johnston is grateful for the opportunity the business co-op program provided and for the responsibility extended by Master Feed. The Venturas said they believe this program is a win-win for the students, local businesses and the community.
Johnston will continue his education in the fall at Southern State Community College, enrolling in general education classes while maintaining employment with Master Feed Mill. Later, he will transfer to a technical school.
The businesses involved with the HHS Business Cooperative Program during the 2012-13 school year were: Pasquale's Pizza, Master Feed Mill, Subway (North High), Highland Computer Forms, The Kroger Co. (Hillsboro and Wilmington), Dairy Queen, Kmart, Magulac Tire, Pace Fitness Center, Lowe's, Long John Silver's, Burger King, Graphics To Go, Domino's, Beechwood Pizza, Pizza Hut (North High), Bagshaw Enterprises and KFC.
During the school year, students completed over 100 employment applications, worked over 10,600 hours and earned $83,000.
