The 2022 Hillsboro High School Prom was held at B&B Riverboats in Newport, Ky.

Students were provided safe and comfortable transportation by Croswell through help from community sponsors: the City of Hillsboro, Southern Hills Community Bank, National Cooperative Bank, Merchants National Bank, Buckeye Dentistry and Boyer Territory Realty Company.

This year’s prom queen was Breanna Karnes, and the prom king was Quintin Captain. The court also included princesses Kaylee Earley, Chloe Masslow, Hailey Phillips and Madalyn Ross and princes Cole Michael, Bryce Parsons, Brogen Priest and Cameron Smart.

This is the first year, to the school’s knowledge, that Hillsboro has hosted a prom off-campus. The administration surveyed the students earlier in the year and had a 97-percent support rating for leaving campus. Students wanted to differentiate prom from homecoming, which is traditionally held in the gym.

Several students attended solely because the prom was taking place at a separate location. The benefit of having the prom on the Riverboat this year was to provide more of an activity versus just the option to dance. Traditionally, if you didn't dance at prom, there wasn't really anything left to do until after prom started.

Several students enjoyed eating together and just taking in the sights of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. This was many students' first time on a boat and visiting a large city. There was something for everyone.

The school has already started surveying students for next year's option to see if leaving campus will be the new norm for prom at Hillsboro.
