Hillsboro graduates earn PFC Zachary R. Gullett Memorial Scholarships

Hillsboro High School class of 2022 graduates Eden Edenfield, Abigail Koogler and Charlie Schneider were recently named this year’s recipients of the PFC Zachary R. Gullett Memorial Scholarship.
The scholarship is named for Private First Class Zachary R. Gullett, who died on May 1, 2007.
Gullett was a 2004 graduate of Hillsboro High School, where he participated in marching band, drama, symphonic choir, and football. He was also a member of the Military Police Regimental Association. In 2005, Gullett attended and graduated from Ohio University-Chillicothe and graduated with a certificate of completion in law enforcement.
Gullett enlisted in the army on Feb. 23, 2006 and reported to Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. for One Station Unit Training (OSUT) as a military policeman. He graduated from OSUT on Aug. 8, 2006. He reported to the 984th MP Co, Fort Carson, Colo. on Aug. 18, 2006.
Gullett was deployed to Iraq on Sept. 16, 2006 and was stationed in Ad Diwaniyah, Iraq. He was very proud to be a military police officer and was planning to pursue a career with the Ohio State Patrol at the conclusion of his five years of enlistment with the Army.
In 2011, a 12-mile stretch of U.S. 50 between Hillsboro and Rainsboro was dedicated the PFC Zachary Gullett Memorial Highway.
