Hillsboro FFA students exhibit rabbits at Highland County Fair

The 2017 Highland County Fair rabbit barn was hopping with nine new exhibitors from the Hillsboro FFA Chapter.
For the rabbit exhibitors, the fair week started off with bringing in and weighing their rabbits on Saturday. On Sunday, exhibitors could test their knowledge of their rabbit projects by competing in the skillathon.

Rabbit shows were then held on Tuesday and Wednesday. Over the summer, Ali Wilson, Haley Unger, Brittney Howard, Casey Jordan and Jenna Garen had the opportunity to go with Mr. Cummings to Jim Fouch to get their rabbits. In preparation for the fair, Kaytlin Fannin and Kenna Keets brought their rabbits to the FFA barn to teach the new exhibitors showmanship techniques.
Some of the fair results for FFA exhibitors include: Hannah Oyer, second in showmanship and reserve champion in her weight class; Fannin, first in her class; and Howard, best in breed and best in opposite breed.
Oher exhibitors were Ali Wilson, Keets, Unger, Alexis Fritz, Breanna Little, Jordan, Emma Wilson, Jadyn Profit and Katie Condo.
The students were excited to have this new experience of showing rabbits.
“It was my first time showing rabbits, and I actually learned a lot,” sophomore Ali Wilson said. “It was a really good experience.”
Without their involvement in FFA, these students may not have had the opportunity to show rabbits. Congratulations to all the new rabbit exhibitors on a successful year.
