Hillsboro FFA presents 23 members with Greenhand Degree

On Nov. 16, the Hillsboro FFA Chapter held their annual Greenhand Night. At this banquet, first-year members are presented with their Greenhand FFA Degree pin.

This year, 23 members were recipients of this degree. In order to be eligible to receive the Greenhand FFA Degree, members must be currently be enrolled in an agricultural class and have a satisfactory plan for a supervised agricultural experience, as well as exhibit knowledge the basic components of FFA such as FFA history, official colors, proper use of official dress, etc.

The guest speaker for this event was the Ohio State FFA President, Ryan Matthews. Matthews spoke to greenhands and encouraged them to “set goals and plan to achieve them.”

Later in the program, six greenhand members presented the FFA Creed, which outlines the basic beliefs of FFA members. These students were Jonathan Hatfield, Rhen Williamson, Nick Lewis, Kelcie Thornburgh, Garrett Fannin and Zinny Adams.

The banquet also consisted of a meal prepared and provided by the Hillsboro FFA and the Grover family. The meal included pulled pork, macaroni and cheese, green beans and cookies.

The Hillsboro FFA would like to thank all who attended this banquet as well as congratulate all Greenhands on their achievements.
