Hillsboro FFA places 3rd at Food Science CDE districts

On Thursday, Nov. 17, 23 of the Hillsboro FFA chapter members traveled to Talawanda High School to compete in District 9 Food Science competition. The team placed third in the district out of 12 teams.
For the previous couple of weeks, the Hillsboro FFA Food Science team had been practicing during lunch and after school in order to prepare for the contest.
The Food Science Career Development Event consists of an online objective test. The contest included the following events: math problems, customer complaint letters, and safety and sanitation situations. Participants also use their sensory skills and taste testing evaluation. Also, the team practiced smelling different aromas and evaluating the difference between them.
The contest purpose is to encourage learning activities in food science and technology related to the food industry, and develop understanding of food product development, food presentation and food safety issues.
The Hillsboro FFA members that competed in the CDE Food Science competition included Grace Allen, Julie Bass, Gavin Brown, Kelsi Brunswick, Dalayna Collins, Reagan Eastes, Trinity Ferrell, Owen Florea, Abigail Fryman, Peyton Gaines, Erin Hedges, Hannah Holland, Ashley Kimball, Addyston Knauff, Brayden Lane, Ryan Mau, Anne-Marie Ogden, Kathryn Ogden, Jenna Rhodes, Chris Sowders, Klayton Waits and Corbin Winkle.
