Hillsboro FFA members exhibit at 2017 Ohio State Fair

During the two weeks of the 2017 Ohio State Fair, several members of the Hillsboro FFA chapter exhibited livestock, competed in showmanship and participated in skillathon.
Members Gavin Puckett, Hillary Hamilton, Emma Parry and Heather Burba all exhibited beef at the state fair. Puckett was second in class and was third overall intermediate showman. Hamilton placed third in class with her steer, and her second steer placed fifth in class. Parry exhibited the fourth overall prospect heifer in the open show. Burba placed ninth in class with her heifer and 10th in showmanship.

Members exhibiting goats were Ashlie Hillyer, Claire Wilkin and Kelcie Thornburg. Hillyer placed third in showmanship and additionally placed second in class with her doe and fourth with her wether. Wilkin exhibited two wethers that placed fourth and sixth in class. Thornburg placed seventh in showmanship and eighth in the open goat show.
Lana Grover exhibited two purebred barrows. She placed second in class with one barrow and placed fourth in skillathon, fifth in showmanship and was the 25th overall outstanding market exhibitor.
Four members, Parry, Kirsten Harp, Joe Helterbrand and Grover, also participated in the 4-H General Livestock Judging contest. These contestants judged six classes of animals, including Angus heifers, market hogs, breeding gilts, Boer does, market lambs and Southdown ewes. They also gave three sets of oral reasons. Harp placed fourth in the beef. Grover was sixth in swine, fourth in goats and ninth overall in oral reasons. The team placed sixth overall.
