Hillsboro FFA members complete Supervised Agriculture Experiences
Lead Summary

Jessica Howland-
Over the summer, Hillsboro FFA members participated in Supervised Agricultural Experiences.
A Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) is a student-led, instructor-supervised work-based experience that can teach FFA members about how to prepare for the future.
Usually, an SAE is within a wide variety of options. For instance, if a student has a garden or a greenhouse, that experience could teach the student how to prepare for horticulture. If a member volunteers at a veterinary clinic, that could be teaching them what it's like to be a veterinarian. SAE projects can also be any market animal.
Some of our members had a wide variety of SAEs. For instance, some students worked at A1 Tree Care, Rural King, local farms and other businesses, which are classified as placement SAE projects. Another type of SAE is entrepreneurship, where FFA members raise livestock and small animals, grow vegetable gardens and mow lawns. Many of our chapter members have continued their SAE projects throughout the summer and will continue working with their projects through fair and the winter.
According to Hillsboro FFA member Trinity Edenfield, “An SAE is an opportunity for a student to learn and grow throughout the agricultural program and provides many skills and knowledge that each student will take with them and use all throughout their life.”
SAEs allow students to gain more knowledge and skills they can use after high school.
