Hillsboro FFA members compete in Public Speaking CDE

Members of the Hillsboro FFA Chapter participated in the Public Speaking Career Development Event (CDE).
On Feb. 24, subdistricts took place at Fairfield High School. Cameron Middleton, Derick Sheilds, Bryanna Buerkle, Serena Hammond, Meredith Oglesby, Kaleb Harp and Cameron Mcconehea all participated in this contest.
In the Creed contest, Cameron Middleton moved on to districts. Serena Hammond had a beginning prepared speech that was five to seven minutes, and she placed second, allowing her to move on to districts. Meredith Oglesby placed first with her six to eight minute advanced prepared speech, also moving on, and Kaleb Harp received a gold rating in extemporaneous, allowing him to move on.

Districts took place on Feb. 26 at Fayetteville High School. Oglesby placed second out of eight to move on to the state speaking contest.
On March 7, Oglesby spoke at the state speaking contest against members from all over the state. Her speech was about food security. Oglesby placed third out of eight in her room which makes placed in her in top six participants in the state of Ohio.
