Hillsboro Christian Academy presents Veterans Day program
Students, faculty, and staff chose to honor veterans of family members and guests at their weekly chapel service this past Thursday.
Highland County’s Honor Guard presented the colors which was followed by salutes to the American flag, the Christian flag, and the Bible.
After singing the National Anthem, the Honor Guard took their seats.
Students at HCA learn that they are not only expected as Christians to honor God, but their county. Senior Dustin Tracy welcomed all of the parents, visitors and veterans. In his welcome, he stated: “While for most, Veterans Day is a day that reminds us of our military, for the returning veteran, it is filled with pride, remembrances and memories. Our veterans have given more than they sacrificed, more than they wanted, and went farther than is humanly possible.
"However, through this, they gave us a gift which, for the most part, we take for granted. That gift is freedom. We wake up safe, in a warm home; we can eat breakfast, go outside and not have to worry for our lives. This is because of those veterans who have defended our nation and will continually do so until their final breath. For me, personally, I can never repay the actions of our veterans. The thing I want people to remember from today is that while we don’t always get what we want, we aren’t always treated with decency, we are free thanks to our veterans."
A video presentation featuring the history of Veterans Day in the United States was followed by the Armed Forces medley where the veterans in each of the branches of the military were recognized. Members of the honor guard presented the history of the 13 folds of the Flag which was very inspiring and emotional. HCA’s elementary students presented three songs thanking the veterans for their sacrifice, their service, and their dedication to God and country. The program concluded with taps and a 21-gun salute by the Honor Guard.
Hillsboro Christian Academy would like to thank the Highland County Honor Guard for being a part of its Veterans Day program and providing an opportunity for the students at HCA to honor them and all of those who have given their lives and are currently serving our country.
