Highland County TAG students visit Washington D.C.

Highland County’s Talented and Gifted (TAG) students recently visited the nation’s capital on their annual TAG field trip.

The 47 fifth-, sixth- and seventh graders and seven chaperones toured Washington D.C., with stops at the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, the Korean War Memorial, Ford’s Theater, the White House, the Jefferson Memorial, the World War II Memorial, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, the U.S. Marine (Iwo Jima) Memorial, George Washington’s Mt. Vernon Plantation, Arlington National Cemetery, the American History Smithsonian Institute, the 9/11 Pentagon Memorial, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the United States Capitol. The students also enjoy a narrated cruise of the Potomac River.

Students attending from Fairfield Local Schools were Alexis Tompkins, Saylor Priest, Justin Sowders, Halle Hamilton, Kylie Fauber, Cody Ayers, Rilee Storts, Nayomie Ludwick, Kylie Heizer, Braxton Harrison, Brayden Zimmerman, Laci Muhlenkamp, Dylan McWhorter, Bryce Posey, Makenna Colwell, Laynee Duffie, Bryson Simmons and Payton Harvey.

Bright Local School District was represented by Cora Gillespie, Alora Brown, Hope Hofer, Annie Wilmoth and Alex Greene.

Lynchburg-Clay students were Faith Carpenter, Emily McGinnis, Hailee Waits, Brooklynn Laymon and Tiah McLean.

Students from Hillsboro City Schools were Justin Conn, Kieran Conlon, Ryan Harless, Rylee Callahan, Sydney Callahan, Gabe Gilliland, Paul Jenkins, Evan Gilliland, Jonathon Hatfield, Scott Maginnis, Eden Edenfield, Jacob Music, Owen Ryan, Clara White, Ben Florea, Bryce Bledsoe, Aneisha Scott, Nyssa Reno and Allison Gaines.

Chaperones for the trip were Mrs. Tonia Armstrong, Mrs. Joni Minton, Mrs. Michelle Ryan, Mrs. Melissa Gillespie, Mrs. Michelle Ayers and Mr. Don Florea.

The trip was coordinated and chaperoned by Kimberly Douglas, School and Student Services Coordinator for the Southern Ohio Educational Service Center, in conjunction with Terry Childers of Travel Doctors of Huntington, W.Va.
