Rory Ryan, owner of The Highland County Press, visited Whiteoak High School on Monday, Oct. 29 to share with Mrs. Kara Juillerat’s Journalism class useful tips and advice for being a good reporter/journalist for the Whiteoak yearbook students.
Ryan started as a sports reporter, and now more than 20 years later, he is the publisher and owner of The Highland County Press.
Ryan is one of four Whiteoak graduates who has written newspaper columns for The Highland County Press since he purchased it in 2009. The others are Jerry Pruitt, Jim Surber and the late Professor Bill Horne.
Ryan said that most publishers expect three stories per reporter, per day. That’s about 300 to 350 words per story.
The paper prints every Thursday in Batavia. There is also a website – www.highlandcountypress.com – being updated seven days a week.
