On Friday, Nov. 20, a group of students was pleasantly surprised to find their families cheering and applauding them as the group was led into the gym. After weeks of waiting, the students’ hopes were finally confirmed: they had been chosen as the 2009 inductees to Hillsboro High School’s National Honor Society. Just a few days later, on Tuesday, Nov. 24, the NHS held the first National Honor Society Induction Ceremony in the new high school building. Inducted were seniors Derek Boone, Holly Fouch, and Hannah Patton, and juniors Emily Archibald, Ashleigh Bagshaw, Christopher Butler, Aric Carroll, Lauren Colliver, Katherine Copas, Andrew Helterbrand, Elizabeth House, Nathan Kidder, Courtney Michael, Tori Murray, Rebecca Pinney, Kristen Puckett, Jaclyn Reinholtz, Benjamin Rhoads, Cynthia Roush, and Danielle Sink. The NHS was proud to have Representative David Daniels as the keynote speaker at the ceremony. Daniels gave the students some wise advice about taking advantage of opportunities in life as they arise. Principal Rick Earley complemented the honor students’ leadership and service in the school. The NHS looks forward to another productive year.
