HHS begins 'Ladder of Success' program

Hillsboro High School is implementing a new student incentive program called the Ladder of Success. The purpose of the program is to provide students with small tangible incentives for improving grades, attendance and behavior, which will be monitored at the end of each midterm and nine-week quarter. There will be four steps (levels) with a reference of bronze, silver, gold and platinum.

Students will achieve the bronze step on the ladder with a 3.2 GPA, no office referrals, two or fewer unexcused absences and two or fewer tardies to school or class. Other opportunities to reach the bronze step will occur when an improvement is made in their GPA from the previous term (+0.5), no unexcused absences or by reducing unexcused absences by 50 percent, no office referrals or by reducing office referrals by 50 percent. For example, a student who had a 2.0 GPA during the first term and achieves a 2.5 GPA for the second term will make bronze.

Once students have achieved the first step, they can continue to climb the ladder by improving grades, attendance, tardies and office referrals. Students on the Ladder of Success will be recognized each term, receive a raffle ticket and a reward. Some of the rewards will include popcorn, ice cream, T-shirts, movie day, outside lunch and free admittance to various school sporting events, plays and music performances. The year-end event will be an off-campus field trip and a raffle giveaway.

The goal of the program is to recognize student improvement as well as student achievement in academics, attendance, tardies and behavior referrals.[[In-content Ad]]
