HHS announces leadership seminar representative

Each year public and private high schools across the country select an outstanding sophomore to attend one of the more than eighty Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership seminars held throughout the country.  
The 2011 HHS outstanding sophomore recently selected was Taylor Stanforth,daughter of Megan Parsons. The runner up selected  was Shelby Bobbitt, daughter of Vicki Storer. The other finalists who went through the interview process were Guy Bailey, son of Guy and Melanie Bailey; Brittany Ferrell, daughter of John and Becky Ferrell; Amie Griffith, daughter of Lori Newman; Devin Hartman, son of Marcus and Cindi Hartman; Jonathan Jacky,son of Joe and Laura Jacky; Darian Schumacher,son of Melina Miller and Geoff Robertson; and Meghan Stratton, daughter of Mitch and Jane Stratton.
Students were asked to list ways they have demonstrated their leadership skills on their interview pre-application. Here are some of their responses.
Taylor is an active member of FFA.  In the past Taylor was in Girl Scouts, was a Girl Scout council member, in National Junior Honor Society, Student Council, church youth group and 4-H.
Shelby runs cross-country, works at the ball park in the summer, was a finalist for outstanding student for the freshman class for the 2009-2010 school year, and served on the Renaissance committee to organize Renaissance Game Night.
Guy runs cross country, is a member of Renaissance and ASTRA, and has gone on an Appalachian mission for his church.
Brittany was a NJHS vice president, runs cross country and track and plays soccer. She is a Kamp Dovetail volunteer, a Renaissance member, member of Student Council and ASTRA.
Amie is president of her 4-H club, secretary of OSU Family and Consumer Science Board, Student Council, is a member of Renaissance and works as a lifeguard at the YMCA.
Devin spends spare time helping tutor students, assists new archers in learning the correct way to shoot and teaches archery safety.
Jonathan is a Student Council member, a Sunday School teacher and is 1st chair trumpet for the HHS Concert Band. He also spends spare time helping coach 5th grade basketball.
Darian demonstrates leadership in class by often beginning discussions.  His out of school activities include paintball and dartguns.
Meghan plays softball  and volleyball.  She is a member of Renaissance and Student Council.
Taylor and Shelby will be attending the Hugh O’Brian Youth Seminar at Denison University May 19-22.  All students would like to thank the Hillsboro Lion’s Club for helping sponsor this event.
