Greening Greater Greenfield (G3), as part of its emerging community garden project, will be hosting a canning and food preservation workshop on Saturday, Aug. 23 at the Paint Creek EMS and Fire District building at 640 N. Washington St., Greenfield.

Workshop runs from 10 a.m. to noon. Aspects of canning fresh fruits and vegetables will be covered as well as techniques to preserve cereals and grains. Pam Morello will lead the program.

In the spring G3, in conjunction with the McClain Chapter of FFA, distributed free garden plants to residents of the Greenfield School District and plans to conduct a series of “How to Garden” workshops during the upcoming winter.

The goal is to give people the tools they need to become more self-reliant and to reduce the ever increasing cost of food.

Funds for these workshops were provided by the three major annual fund raising projects G3 sponsors; Oktoberfest, Blues, Brews & Stews, and Paddle on Paint.
