Former Chatfield College president to head award-winning Xavier program

Dr. Nancy Linenkugel, OSF, DM, LFACHE, is the new chair of Xavier University's Health Services Administration effective August 16, 2011. She replaces Dr. Ida Critelli Schick who retired in May after 19 years at Xavier and 13 as Chair of the Department.
Linenkugel is an alumna of the program, having earned her master's in Hospital & Health Administration from Xavier in 1980. She received an Associate of Arts from Lourdes Junior College in Sylvania, OH, a Bachelor of Arts from Mary Manse College in Toledo, and a Doctor of Management from The Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University.
Linenkugel was president of Chatfield College from 2002-2008, at which time she was elected to the four-member leadership council for her order, the Sisters of St. Francis of Sylvania, Ohio. The council has oversight for all matters within the Congregation, including the membership of 182 Sisters, the order's ministries (health-care system, college, grade school and other ministries), as well as its corporate affairs. She will continue to serve on the council for the 2011-2012 year when her term ends.
Prior to taking the Chatfield position, she spent 15 years as president and CEO of Providence Hospital and the Providence Health System in Sandusky, Ohio. During her tenure there, she oversaw the development of new services, including open heart surgery, physical therapy clinics, a women's center, psychiatric services, and a home health agency.
She led a physician relations program that increased admissions and initiated the creation of a free-standing nursing home. Prior to her work at Providence, Sister Nancy was vice president of Support Services at St. John Medical Center, Steubenville, Ohio, from 1980-85. She began her healthcare career in 1979 as an administrative resident at Saint Vincent Health Center, Erie, Pa.
"It is an honor and a pleasure to have been selected as the new Chair of Xavier¹s Department of Health Services Administration," says Linenkugel. "Being an alumna of the program (1980), I hold a special love for the department as well as an affinity for our healthcare ministry. Health services administration is a ministry, setting it apart from general business administration. I believe that, I espouse that, and I will emphasize that among many things we hold true during my time as Chair."

Board certified in healthcare management and an American College of Healthcare Executives Fellow, Linenkugel served as one of three Governors-at-Large from 2000-2002. Previously, she was ACHE Regent for Northwestern Ohio. She has served on the boards of several organizations, including the University Hospitals Regional Network, Cleveland; Lourdes College, Sylvania, Ohio and serving as president of the Erie County (Ohio) Chamber of Commerce. She is a 1991 ATHENA winner, a 1999 inductee into the Ohio Women's Hall of Fame, and was the first woman president of the Sandusky (Ohio) Rotary Club. She was chosen to be one of 50 of the 3,000 national ATHENA winners to participate in the Global Links project, mentoring students at Zayed University in the United Arab Emirates.
This selective program prepares exceptional students for leadership positions in the health care industry or for graduate study in law, medicine or doctoral programs in public health, allied health, health services and leadership.
