Former Bethel-Tate Local School District Superintendent James Smith named interim superintendent for Hillsboro City Schools

Former Bethel-Tate Local School District Superintendent James Smith has been named the interim superintendent for Hillsboro City Schools it was announced Wednesday.

Three years ago this week, Smith announced his retirement as the Bethel-Tate superintendent.

According to The Clermont Sun (www.clermontsun.com), Smith stepped down in October 2010 after 13 years as head of the Bethel-Tate Local School District.

The Bethel class of 1969 graduate said it was an easy decision.

“I’m not sure where my career will take me but I’m looking for a less hectic life,” Smith said in a letter to the Board of Education.

The board accepted his retirement letter at their Oct. 25, 2010 meeting.

The 2010-11 school year was Smith's 35th year in Ohio academics. Prior to joining the Bethel-Tate administration, he spent 20 years at Grant Career Center where he was principal from 1994-98, The Clermont Sun reported.

Smith will succeed Hillsboro City Schools Superintendent Rick Earley, who announced his retirement earlier this year.
