FHS National Honor Society chapter conducts charitable projects

The Fairfield Local High School chapter of the National Honor Society has been very busy this school year. This student organization has successfully conducted three charitable projects, each benefiting a well-deserving group.

This past December, the group conducted its first “Winter Wear Drive.” As a result, 105 pairs of gloves, 21 scarves, 80 winter hats and 44 coats were collected to benefit the students at Fairfield Local School as well as The Friendly Village Community Center located in Leesburg.

On January 31, 2014, the NHS hosted a “Red Out” that took place during the boys’ high school basketball game to further the efforts of The American Heart Association. This “Red Out” was held to raise awareness and promote the building of healthier lives, free of cardiovascular disease and stroke. Themed red T-shirts were sold and donations were collected to raise a total of $875 for this organization.

Finally, in March, Fairfield’s National Honor Society launched the “Pennies for Patients” campaign to assist the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society which actively funds local blood cancer research for pediatrics and adults. Over a three-week period, the NHS was able to accumulate a total of $910.94 to donate to this association.

The goal of the National Honor Society is to give back to the school and community by maintaining high standards of character and scholarship as well as proving leadership and service to others. In order to fulfill this goal and to continue these charitable projects, the NHS is in need of a small amount of monetary funding.
