From left, the team of Saylor Priest and Ailean Duffie won a “superior” with their project “Juglone Effects,” which was a study of a natural herbicide produced by walnut trees. In addition, this team won two special awards: first place from the Ohio Soybean Bioscience, which carried a $1,000 cash prize; and first place in “Interdisciplinary Research,” sponsored by Sigma Xi, for which they received $100 each, a plaque and an invitation to the fraternity’s annual banquet.
The other team, Abby Davis and Mia Keeton, won an “Excellent” with their project “Dog Saliva Antibodies.” They studied whether the size of a dog contributes to its level of antibodies.
Both teams won a “superior” in the district fair earlier to qualify for the state science fair in Columbus which took place May 13.
