Fairfield Middle School recently held its annual science fair, and six projects were selected to go to the district competition at Wilmington College on March 19.

The district finalists include: Alec Irvin & Dustin Willey - Hydrogen Fuel Cell,1st Place; Kylie Allen and Caleb Huff - Green Heat, 2nd Place; Lydia Sowders and Katie Runyon - It's Not Just Rubbish, 3rd Place (tie); Seth Case and Dustin Gebhart - Down Range, 3rd Place (tie); Justice Hattan and Cheyenne Allen - Herbicides Affecting Wildlife, honorable mention; Layne Irvin and Jordan Cartwright - Pennies & Peppers, honorable mention.

The "Special Awards Winners" group includes the following students and their projects: Lizzy Jones and Kaitlin Evans - Electricity From a Rubber Band, Best Technology Project; Roshell Boles and Mercedes Ewing - Do You Remember, Most Unique & Interesting; Paul Dean and Colin Davis - Which Soil is Best, Best Use of Scientific Method; Tristen Collins and Heather Sanderson - The Solar Car, Best Engineering Project; Kaylee Achor and Courtney Harker - Feeling Good Athlete, Most Creative; Sarah Dement and Beth Bolton - Dirty Drywall, Best Environmental Project; Haley Bobb, Emily Teeters and Jamison Grooms - Anxiety-Pressure ... Can You Handle It? - Best Display; Clayton Collier and Justin Bailey - Monofilament Fishing Line, Best Presentation.
