Fairfield FFA salutes new state FFA president

On Thursday, May 4, Ryan Matthews and the rest of the state officer team kicked off the first session of the 89th State Convention. At the end of first session, the next year’s state officer team is slated, two per top seven offices. 

For each pair, one individual becomes a top seven officer and the other a vice president at-large. Last year, Matthews was slated for sentinel, but ended up a vice president at-large and fulfilled the position.

The state president has to be a state officer for one year before running for oresident. Matthews went through the same interview process as any other state officer candidate, and at the end of the first session, he was slated for state president.

The convention’s third session kicked off Friday. Tensions and hopes rose through the day to see who would be the 2017-18 officer team. As the fourth session rolled around, all the state degree recipients were awarded their golden charm. At the end of the fourth session, excitement filled the air as officers were called and then the president’s name was called – Ryan Matthews, a member of the Fairfield FFA Chapter.

All the members are proud of his accomplishments and wish him the best of luck for his upcoming year in office.
