Fairfield FFA participates in soils judging competition

On October 8, the Fairfield FFA got the opportunity to compete in the District 9 rural soils judging competition and urban soils judging competition in Seaman.

Rural soils are typically found in large farming and plantation areas. These soils are judged on their abilities to hold water and support crop life.

The rural soils judging team placed seventh out of 21 teams. Ryan Matthews ranked 13th out of 102 individuals. Klay Walker ranked 25th, Baylee Willey 48th, Conner Shoemaker 58th, Austin Richards 76th and Kadyn Lamb 91st. The boys did a great job and look forward to competing again next year.

In the urban soils competition, soils are judged by how well the soil would hold up if a structure was to be built over top of it.

Fairfield’s team ranked 10th out of 14 teams. Out of 73 individuals, Heizer placed 39th, Dale Back 42nd, Nick Evans 44th, Teigan Thackston 45th, Haven Woods 60th and Lane Frost 67th. This young team learned a great deal of knowledge on soils and looks forward to gaining more knowledge for competition next year.
