Fairfield FFA members attend Ohio Legislative Leadership Conference

On Sept. 30, the Fairfield FFA got to spend the day at the statehouse for the Ohio Legislative Leadership Conference.
Here, FFA members learned how to speak with legislators, deal with political issues and learn how to advocate for agriculture. While there, they had the opportunity to go through a mock legislation where they were split into two groups, legislatures and lobbyists.
The lobbyists had to give their view on a proposed bill to try and convince the legislatures how to vote. Afterwards, they even got to meet with the actual representatives.

The Fairfield FFA Chapter’s vice president, Ryan Matthews, says that his favorite thing about the trip was getting to meet with the actual representatives and senators.
“Meeting the legislatures was interesting to me, learning how they climbed the branches of Ohio’s government to become senators, starting out no bigger than me, ” the chapter’s treasurer, Lane Frost, said.
Overall it was a very educational and fun day for the students who got the opportunity to attend.
