Emily Roush earns Carl Walton Memorial Scholarship

The Lynchburg Masonic Lodge 178 is proud to announce that the winner of the Carl Walton Memorial Scholarship for 2016 is Emily Roush.
Whitney Lewis, Lynchburg-Clay guidance counselor, noted that this year's applicants were very good and each deserved recognition for their accomplishments while students at Lynchburg-Clay High School.
Roush was on the honor roll all four years at Lynchburg-Clay, with three of those years on the straight “A” honor roll. She was also a Lynchburg-Clay Hall of Fame finalist her senior year.
While a student at Lynchburg-Clay, Roush participated in basketball (four years), volleyball (two years), cross-country, National Honor Society (officer) (two years), Class Officer (three years), Art Club (three years), Spanish Club (three years), FFA (officer) (three years), and placed second in the state with her FFA Beef Proficiency project.
Outside of school, Roush serves as a Wee Worship Helper at the Pricetown Church of Christ. Her favorite high school memories include the senior trip to Washington, D.C., going to regionals in the girls’ basketball tournament, winning the league title in volleyball, and supporting the boys’ basketball team in the Final Four.
Emily is the daughter of J.R. and Dana Roush. She will be attending the University of the Cumberlands enrolling in their physician’s assistant program.
In 2004, Carl Walton, a member of the Lynchburg Masonic Lodge 178, envisioned the lodge creating a foundation fund for the purpose of collecting charitable contributions to help young graduates of the Lynchburg-Clay school system to reach their educational dreams, and to contribute to other community needs such as the Highland County Special Olympics. Through Carl’s efforts and financial support, the Lynchburg Masonic Foundation Fund was created. Since then, through charitable donations, and proceeds from events and motorcycle rides, the foundation has been able to give away $4,500 in scholarships to deserving students.
