Congressman Jim Jordan to speak at Midwest Homeschool Convention

The 2014 Midwest Homeschool Convention will be April 24-26 at the Duke Energy Center in Cincinnati.

Scheduled speakers include Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan, R-Urbana.

Jordan, of Champaign County, graduated from Graham High School in 1982, where he was a four-time state champion in wrestling with a career record of 150-1. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Wisconsin, where he was a two-time NCAA wrestling champion. He later earned a master’s degree in education from the Ohio State University and a law degree from Capital University in Columbus.

Congressman Jordan and his wife, Polly, have four grown children and one grandchild. The Jordans homeschooled their children for a combined 13 years and believe strongly that parents know what is best for their children’s educational needs and should have the freedom to make those decisions.

In Congress, Jordan has also emerged as a prominent defender of the taxpayer’s pocketbook through his work on spending issues. In 2009, he introduced the only balanced budget alternative to President Obama’s budget. In the 112th Congress, Jordan served as chairman of the House Republican Study Committee, the largest caucus of conservatives, advancing conservative ideas and solutions on Capitol Hill.

Other scheduled speakers are Dr. Ben Carson, Heidi St. John, Dr. Kathy Koch, Michael Medved, Cathy Duffy, Matt Walsh, and dozens more.

The event will feature more than 100 exhibitor booths and many authors behind the homeschool curricula.

Attendees are able to choose sessions that are most applicable to their own homeschooling efforts. These sessions will include topics such as math, reading, science, spelling, writing, classical home education, beginning homeschooling, homeschooling through high school, special needs and more.
