National School Lunch Week was Oct. 14-18. Bright Elementary School celebrated with special themed meals each day.
During this week, they introduced new meals using sports themes. Grand slam French bread pizza, ball park burgers with a soft pretzel and cheese cup and home run nachos with shredded chicken were a great addition to the menu.
Thank you to Bright PTL for making a "Take Me Out to The Ball Park" back drop for students to enjoy during the week. They rounded out the week with popcorn and a movie on Friday with a stadium hot dog meal. During the month of October, there were several days where more than 600 meals per day were served at Bright Elementary.

• It’s Great Lakes Apple Crunch time at Bright Local Schools. BLSD joined schools, preschools, colleges and hospitals across the Great Lakes Region states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana and Ohio in the sixth annual Great Lakes Great Apple Crunch.
Participates celebrated National Farm to School Month and local farmers by crunching into locally grown apples on Friday, Oct. 11
Bright Local celebrated by providing students with an apple for lunch. The apples were just the start of the National Farm to School Month. They also provided locally grown sweet corn this month that our students really enjoyed. The corn was shucked during breakfast time so that students and staff could help. Several students had never even seen corn in the husk.
A special thanks to school board member Steve Cox and his son, Chris, who volunteered their time to help prepare over 1,000 ears of corn for the students. Other vegetables provided for our students are locally grown cucumbers, watermelon and grape tomatoes. The fresh fruit and vegetables are a welcome addition to their menu.
This collective crunch encourages healthy eating and supports farm to school and local food initiatives through the Great Lakes Region. Bright Local’s Wellness Group plan many special events to support healthy habits for our students. The goal has been to educate our community of the importance of eating a healthy breakfast/lunch and how it is a necessary part of the academic day.
