In today’s fast-paced world, Bright Elementary teachers strive to maximize their teaching time.
Seven Bright Elementary teachers traveled to Hillsboro Middle School and joined 20 other area educators for a weeklong science and literacy integration training workshop. The program, called NonFiction Texts in Inquiry based Science, (NFTI) is funded by an Ohio Mathematics Science Partnership grant, a federal MSP initiative which is awarded and administered by the Ohio Department of Education.
Partners for the NFTI professional development program include the Ohio Resource Center, the Teaching & Learning Collaborative, and Capital University.
The main goal is to provide teachers with multiple, hands on strategies that bring together science and literacy through student exploration and discovery. By integrating subjects, teachers are able to cover standards for both disciplines in real world ways, making the learning authentic and meaningful for students.
Participants collaborated throughout the week of July 25-29 completing lessons and activities based on Ohio’s Learning Standards in Science and English Language Arts. The Bright Elementary team is excited to implement these best practice teaching strategies as the new school year begins.
The learning will continue for the teachers throughout the school year and into next summer with online correspondence and Saturday seminars. Let the explorations begin!
