The Lynchburg Masonic Lodge 178 is proud to announce that the winner of the Carl Walton Memorial Scholarship for 2018 is Abigail Blankenship.
Whitney Lewis, Lynchburg-Clay High School guidance counselor, noted that this years applicants were very good, and each deserved recognition for their accomplishments while students at Lynchburg-Clay High School.
While a student at Lynchburg-Clay High School, Blankenship was involved in the National Honor Society, served as a class officer, was a member of the Future Framers of America and played volleyball and basketball and ran cross-country and track.
Abigail is the daughter of Ernie Blankenship and Amy Snyder. Abigail will be attending Shawnee State University to major in occupational therapy.
In 2004, Carl Walton, a member of the Lynchburg Masonic Lodge 178, envisioned the lodge creating a foundation fund for the purpose of collecting charitable contributions to help young graduates of the Lynchburg-Clay school system to reach their educational dreams, and to contribute to other community needs such as the Highland County Special Olympics.
Through Carl’s efforts and financial support, the Lynchburg Masonic Foundation Fund was created. Since then, through charitable donations, and proceeds from events and motorcycle rides, the foundation has been able to give away $5,500 in scholarships to deserving students.
