AAUW awards scholarships to local women

The Hillsboro area branch of the American Association of University Women presented scholarships to Kelly McFadden, Erin Mustard and Amy Wilson on Sept. 22.

Since 1982, these scholarships have been awarded on an annual basis to nontraditional college females. The selection is based on academic achievement, clearly stated goals and academic potential.

McFadden has been inspired by so many educators that she hopes to continue her education and eventually achieve her goal of a bachelor's degree in nursing.

Mustard plans to graduate from Wright State in December with a degree in nursing. Her long-term goal is to complete her master's degree and become a nurse practitioner.

Wilson, a wife and mother, is pursuing her goals of teaching preschool children by attending Chatfield College to earn a degree in early childhood education.

Funds to support the scholarships are raised through the annual Book Sale, which is held in November. The organization depends on public donations of books and community support of the sale. 

Applications for next year's scholarships will be available in March 2015 at any Highland County library.
