Greenfield Elementary fifth-graders’ art will go up for auction on the school’s Facebook page this week with proceeds to benefit Shriners Children’s.

Starting Friday, March 20, one-of-a-kind art pieces by the fifth-grade art students of Greenfield Elementary will be displayed on the “Greenfield Elementary School” Facebook page and can be bid on there. The auction will run until Sunday March 22.

The fifth graders worked in different mediums on 8-inch by 10-inch canvases. The mediums used and the subject matters represented were their choice, art teacher William Roller said.

This is the fourth year for the Art for a Cause event. The money raised through the auctioned artwork will be donated to Shriners Children’s.

In the last three years, students have raised approximately $2,900 through the auction of their original artworks. In the first year, proceeds were split between the Highland County Homeless Shelter and the Highland County Humane Society. The proceeds from the second year’s event went to a local student battling leukemia. The money raised through last year’s auction went to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. All causes supported have been chosen by the students.

Roller previously stated that local businesses and the community have really supported this event and helped raise money for worthy causes. Everyone is welcome to check out the school’s Facebook page starting this Friday and see the 74 art pieces up for auction.

“As their teacher, I felt it was important to show my students how art can touch lives. Doing something for others builds character,” Roller said previously, adding that his students “have a ton” of that character.
