HDH Board
to meet Nov. 8
The Highland District Hospital Board of Governors will hold a special
board meeting Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. in the Highland District Hospital
Education Room. The meeting has been called to discuss insurance and
employee benefits.
SATH Turkey Bingo
set for Nov. 18
SATH is holding its 20th annual Turkey Bingo. Thanksgiving is just
around the corner, and we have the event for your holiday. Come play bingo
and win a turkey or maybe even Thanksgiving dinner.
Bingo will begin Saturday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. at the Hillsboro Elementary
gymnasium. During the night, 25 turkeys will be given away. The evening¹s
event will end with a game of coverall in which the winner gets a complete
Thanksgiving dinner.
The cost will be a donation of 25 cents per card per game. During each
intermission, there will be a cake walk.
Prior to bingo, a soup supper will kick off the evening at 5 p.m. Come
early and enjoy some homemade chili, chicken and noodles, cornbread, hot
dogs and lots of delicious desserts.

DAV Chapter 123 hosts
Veterans Day dinner
Disabled American Veterans Chapter 123 in Hillsboro is inviting all
Highland County veterans, active duty personnel, veterans¹ widows and guests
to its annual Veterans Day dinner.
The event will be held Saturday, Nov. 11, starting at 4:30 p.m., in the
Hi-TEC conference room, 1575 North High St., Hillsboro.
Greenfield Presbyterian
Church dinner Nov. 19
The First Presbyterian Church, 457 Jefferson Street, Greenfield, will be
serving dinner Sunday, Nov. 19 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the church dining
room. The menu will include ham loaf, loaded mashed potatoes, green
beans/corn, cornbread, fruit salad, variety of desserts, coffee, tea and
lemonade. Carryout will be available.
The suggested donation is $12 per person, and children 6 and under eat
free. Everyone is welcome.
VFW Post 9094
fish fry Nov. 4
VFW Post 9094 will host a fish fry Saturday, Nov. 4 from 4:30-7 p.m.
Meals are $14 and include all the fish you can eat, fries, slaw, hush
puppies and soft drink.
The VFW is located at 1000 West Main Street, Hillsboro. The fish fry is
open to the public.
WHS juniors host
5k walk, run Nov. 18
Whiteoak¹s junior class is hosting a ³Gobble Gobble Run or Wobble² 5K
race, Nov. 18 at 9 a.m. at Whiteoak High School.
Registration is $30 and includes a free T-shirt with pre-registration by
Nov. 1. Signups will continue until the morning of the race, with a limited
number of shirts available for $20 at the event.
Checks should be made payable to Bright Local Schools. All proceeds will
go to the WHS junior class for prom and other activities.
Age group medals will be awarded for the following groups: 8 and under;
9-11; 12-14; 15-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59;
60-64; 65-69; and 70 and up. Awards will also be presented to the top three
overall male/female runners; top two of each age group; and top three
walkers.

Jingle Bell Bazaar
The Jingle Bell Bazaar will be held Saturday, Nov. 4 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
at the Hillsboro Elementary School.
The event will include handmade crafts, baked goods, wooden décor and
much more.
Leesburg Area Historical
Society Heritage Breakfast Nov. 4
The Leesburg Area Historical Society will host its second annual
Heritage Breakfast on Saturday, Nov. 4 from 8-11 a.m. The meal will be
served at the Highland County North Joint Fire & Ambulance Station Community
Room (200 South St., Leesburg). On the menu are pancakes and sausage;
biscuits and gravy; and beverages.
Traditional and folk music will be performed by John Noftsger. Antique
and vintage items will be appraised by antique experts Toy Fender and Betty
Ann Walker. While the entire event is free, donations will be gratefully
accepted. The Society hopes to raise the last $3,000 needed to undertake a
full exterior renovation of our 1899 train depot in the coming year.
Altrusa quarter raffle Nov. 9
Altrusa of Highland County will be having a quarter raffle on Nov. 9 at
the Hillsboro Orpheum. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the raffle starts at
6:30 p.m.
Altrusa is a nonprofit organization which gives every student in
Highland County, grades kindergarten through fifth, a book every year as one
of their service projects.
Veterans Appreciation Night Nov. 10
The 11th annual Veterans Appreciation Night and open house will be
4-6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10 at the Hi-TEC Center conference room. The Hi-TEC
Center is located at 1575 North High Street in Hillsboro. Light refreshments
will be served.
Special recognition will be given to Korean War veterans on the 70th
anniversary of the Korean War Armistice Agreement in 1953.
The event is hosted by the Highland County Veterans Service Office.
Unified Christian Men's Chorus
Veterans Day concert Nov. 5
The Unified Christian Men's Chorus annual Veterans Day concert will be 3
p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5 at the Wilmington Church of Christ, 909 West Locust
Street in Wilmington.
Admission is free. All veterans will receive a challenge coin. Child
care will be available.
The Unified Christian Men's Chorus includes Clinton, Fayette and
Highland County veterans when they host this annual concert. For

Hillsboro meetings
The 2024 City of Hillsboro meeting schedule is as follows.
• City Council meets the Thursday after the second Monday of the month
at 7 p.m. in the Municipal Courtroom.
• Planning Commission meets the third Monday of the month at :30 p.m. at
the old firehouse on Governor Trimble Place.
• The Revolving Loan Fund Committee holds quarterly meetings at 10 a.m.
in the City Building. Scheduled dates are: Jan. 17, May 22, Aug. 21 and Nov.

• Records Commission meetings are TBA.
• Civil Service Commission meetings are TBA.
• The Community Improvement Corporation meets the second Wednesday of
the month at 9 a.m. at the City Building.
Changes in schedule or special meetings must be published a minimum of
24 hours prior to meeting time.
Senior food donations
The Highland County Church of Christ is giving out senior food boxes on
the third Friday of each month. These are boxes of canned and shelf-stable
items, plus cheese. To qualify, you must be age 60 or older; submit an
income form (to be filled out one time); and pick up your food box between
11 a.m.-1 p.m. on the third Friday of each month at 6670 U.S. Route 50 West,

HCCAO Board meeting dates announced
The Highland County Community Action Organization Governing Board will
meet in 2023 on the following dates: Nov. 28 and Dec. 26.
HDH Board meetings
The Highland District Hospital Board of Governors meetings for 2023 will
be held on the last Wednesday of each month, January-November, at 7 p.m. in
the Education Room at Highland District Hospital. Meeting schedules for

Reformers Unanimous
Reformers Unanimous offers Christian support for all types of addiction
every Friday from 7-9 p.m. Meetings are held at Greenfield Area Christian

Peace Lutheran Church
Peace Lutheran Church continues to serve as the location for AA, NA and
AlAnon. There is also a model train group which sets up at the Highland

Lynchburg Historical Society
The Lynchburg Historical Society will be open on Tuesdays from 10 a.m.-2
p.m. The Society is located at 151 S. Main Street near the police office.
New Life Church & Ministries
resumes food giveaway
New Life Church & Ministries, located at 6101 S.R. 247 in Hillsboro, has
resumed its weekly food giveaway. The food pantry will be offered every
Friday from 1-4 p.m. Individuals are asked to wait until after 10 a.m. at
the absolute earliest to get in line for the food giveaways.
