Bible Believers Baptist Church revival
    The Bible Believers Baptist Church, located at 7011 Ervin Road in
Hillsboro, will be having revival services Oct. 9-13 at 7 p.m. nightly.
    Pastor Rick Proffitt of the Bethel Baptist Church in Glasgow, Ky. and
Pastor Cliff Parks of the Good News Baptist Church in Beavercreek (Dayton)
will both be preaching each night. The Leighley Family from Springfield and
The Miller Family from Dayton will be singing.

21st annual SATH 
Radio-A-Thon Oct. 23
    SATH proudly announces the generous donation of airtime by radio
stations C-103 in West Union and 99.5 in Georgetown on Monday, Oct. 23 from
6-10 p.m. The 21st annual Radio-A-Thon will take place at the C-103/99.5
radio station.
    SATH will be broadcasting live and accepting pledges for SATH and KAMP
Dovetail. Tune in to C-103 or 99.5 ³The Edge² for information concerning the
radio-a-thon, upcoming SATH events and the latest progress on KAMP. If you
wish to make a pledge prior to the radio-a-thon, you may do so by calling

St. Vincent dePaul Society
outreach sessions
    The St. Vincent dePaul Society of St. Mary Catholic Church in Hillsboro
will be holding two outreach sessions during the month of October. The
sessions will be held on Saturday, Oct. 14 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and on
Wednesday, Oct. 25 from 6-7:30 p.m.  
    The Outreach sessions are held at the Parish Hall which is directly
behind the church at 119 East Walnut St., Hillsboro. Please bring copies of
utility bills and verification of income.

Veterans Appreciation Night Nov. 10
    The 11th annual Veterans Appreciation Night and open house will be
4-6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10 at the Hi-TEC Center conference room. The Hi-TEC
Center is located at 1575 North High Street in Hillsboro. Light refreshments
will be served.
    Special recognition will be given to Korean War veterans on the 70th
anniversary of the Korean War Armistice Agreement in 1953.
    The event is hosted by the Highland County Veterans Service Office.

Unified Christian Men's Chorus
Veterans Day concert Nov. 5
    The Unified Christian Men's Chorus annual Veterans Day concert will be 3
p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5 at the Wilmington Church of Christ, 909 West Locust
Street in Wilmington.
    Admission is free. All veterans will receive a challenge coin. Child
care will be available.
    The Unified Christian Men's Chorus includes Clinton, Fayette and
Highland County veterans when they host this annual concert. For

HSWCD annual meeting Oct. 12
    The Highland Soil & Water Conservation District¹s 81st annual meeting
will be held Oct. 12 at the Back Room Paradise, located at 6174 Miller Lane,
Hillsboro. 
    The Highland SWCD will be hosting a social hour from 5:30-6:30 p.m. as
voting for the Supervisor Election takes place. A buffet style meal will be
served at 6:30 p.m., followed by the presentation of awards beginning at 7
p.m. The program will feature the winners of the County Conservation Poster
Contest, FFA Land judging and the 2023 Cooperator of Year Award.

Lynchburg Masonic Lodge
fish fry Oct. 28
    Lynchburg Masonic Lodge 178, located at 131 S. Main St., will host a
fish fry on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 4:30-7 p.m. 
    The menu will include a fish dinner for $12 (fish, fries, slaw and hush
puppies), kids meal for $8 (chicken tenders, fries and drink) or a fish
sandwich for $6.
    Fried pies will be sold separately.
    Proceeds will benefit the Lodge.

PERI chapter to meet Oct. 12
    The Highland County Chapter of the Public Employees Retirees, Inc.
meeting will be 10 a.m. Oct. 12 at the Hi-TEC Center, 1575 North High
Street, Hillsboro. 
    The speaker will be Kendra Burford, OSHIP community liaison. All members
and guests are welcome to attend.

Hillsboro meetings
    The 2024 City of Hillsboro meeting schedule is as follows.
    • City Council meets the Thursday after the second Monday of the month
at 7 p.m. in the Municipal Courtroom.
    • Planning Commission meets the third Monday of the month at :30 p.m. at
the old firehouse on Governor Trimble Place.
    • The Revolving Loan Fund Committee holds quarterly meetings at 10 a.m.
in the City Building. Scheduled dates are: Jan. 17, May 22, Aug. 21 and Nov.

    • Records Commission meetings are TBA.
    • Civil Service Commission meetings are TBA.
    • The Community Improvement Corporation meets the second Wednesday of
the month at 9 a.m. at the City Building.

Highland County Historical
Society annual meeting Oct. 12
    The Annual Meeting of the Highland County Historical Society will be
held Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023 at 7 p.m. at the Highland House Museum at 151
East Main Street in Hillsboro. Reports will be given, and an election will
be held.  
    The meeting is open to the public, but only members may vote in the
election. The slate of candidates for three trustees, president and vice
president will be introduced. Trustees serve a three-year term, and
president and vice president serve one-year terms.

Liberty Lions Club
pancake breakfast
    The Liberty Lions Club will be holding an all-you-can-eat pancake
breakfast on Saturday, Oct. 14 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Hillsboro
Global Methodist Church, 133 East Walnut Street.
    Please enter on the back side of the building. The cost will be $10 for
adults, $5 for children 12 and under and $8 for 65 and up. 
    There will be a gift basket raffle and a 50/50 drawing. All proceeds
will go toward the Liberty Lions Scholarship Fund.

Greenfield Board of
Zoning Appeals to meet
    Greenfield Board of Zoning Appeals has scheduled a meeting for Tuesday,
Oct. 10 at 4:30 p.m. in the third-floor council/conference room. This
meeting will be held to discuss and consider a variance request for signage
for Parcel No. 27-17-001-200.00 (250 Jefferson Street).

Countywide curfew
    Highland County Juvenile Court Judge Kevin L. Greer announced that a
countywide curfew for all persons under the age of 18 will begin Sunday,
Oct. 1 and continue through Tuesday, Oct. 31.
    The curfew requires all persons under the age of 18 years to be off the
streets and in their homes Monday through Thursday by 10 p.m. and Friday,
Saturday and Sunday by midnight.
    The curfew does not apply where children are accompanied by parents,
legal guardians or custodians. Exception is also made for children attending
church, school or employment activities.
    Enforcement will be handled by all law enforcement agencies, including
the sheriff's department, city or village police and juvenile probation
officers.
    While noting the court has no authority to set beggars' night, and
strictly as a convenience to law enforcement, it is suggested each city,
village and organization ‹ should they elect to have beggars' night ‹ set
the same on Thursday, Oct. 25 from 6-8 p.m.

Alternatives to Violence
Center trivia night Oct. 27
    The Alternatives to Violence Center will hold its 12th annual trivia
night fundraiser on Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. at the Hillsboro Orpheum, 135 North
High St. This year¹s theme is Marvel Heroes ­ ³Not All Heroes Wear Capes.²
Tickets are $400 per table for a minimum of five and maximum of eight
players per team. Cash prizes will be awarded to the first-, second- and
third-place teams. 
    Dinner is provided, and there will be a cash bar. There will be a
costume contest, and attendees are encouraged to dress like your favorite
Marvel hero.

Beggars¹ night Oct. 26
    Trick or treat (beggars¹ night) will be observed in the City of
Hillsboro on Thursday, Oct. 26 during the hours of 6-8 p.m.

HUBA meetings
    The Hillsboro Uptown Business Association meetings are held at 8:30 a.m.
at the Highland County Administration Building in the basement room. The
dates for the 2023 meetings are: Oct. 10 and Nov. 14. Anyone who has a
business or is interested in starting a business is welcome to join HUBA at
a meeting.

Senior food donations
    The Highland County Church of Christ is giving out senior food boxes on
the third Friday of each month. These are boxes of canned and shelf-stable
items, plus cheese. To qualify, you must be age 60 or older; submit an
income form (to be filled out one time); and pick up your food box between
11 a.m.-1 p.m. on the third Friday of each month at 6670 U.S. Route 50 West,

HCCAO Board meeting dates announced
    The Highland County Community Action Organization Governing Board will
meet in 2023 on the following dates: Oct. 24, Nov. 28 and Dec. 26.

HDH Board meetings
    The Highland District Hospital Board of Governors meetings for 2023 will
be held on the last Wednesday of each month, January-November, at 7 p.m. in
the Education Room at Highland District Hospital. Meeting schedules for

Reformers Unanimous
    Reformers Unanimous offers Christian support for all types of addiction

Peace Lutheran Church
    Peace Lutheran Church continues to serve as the location for AA, NA and
AlAnon. There is also a model train group which sets up at the Highland

Lynchburg Historical Society
    The Lynchburg Historical Society will be open on Tuesdays from 10 a.m.-2
p.m. The Society is located at 151 S. Main Street near the police office.

New Life Church & Ministries
resumes food giveaway
    New Life Church & Ministries, located at 6101 S.R. 247 in Hillsboro, has
resumed its weekly food giveaway. The food pantry will be offered every
Friday from 1-4 p.m. Individuals are asked to wait until after 10 a.m. at
the absolute earliest to get in line for the food giveaways.
