Day of remembrance for
overdose victims Aug. 31
A day of remembrance and awareness for drug overdose victims will be
observed at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31 at 108 Governor Trimble Place in
Hillsboro. There will be guest speakers, a balloon release, Narcan training
and refreshments.
Our Lady of the Hills Family Picnic Aug. 27
Our Lady of the Hills Family Picnic will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27 at
Rocky Fork Lake Park in the KAMP Dovetail Shelter off of North Shore Drive.
Guests are asked to bring a side dish or dessert and yard games. Our Lady of
the Hills, the Catholic Community of Adams and Highland counties, includes
St. Mary Catholic Church, St. Benignus Catholic Church, St. Mary Queen of
Heaven and Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
New Hope Baptist Church anniversary
New Hope Baptist Church will be celebrating their 169th church
anniversary Sunday, Aug. 27 with a service beginning at 11 a.m.
The church is located at 128 East Beech St., Hillsboro.
The Rev. Jonathan Morehead from Hosack Street Baptist Church in Columbus
will be the guest speaker. Pastor Tyrone Lawes and the New Hope congregation
welcome everyone to attend.
HC GOP picnic Aug. 20
The Highland County Republican picnic is set for Sunday, Aug. 20 from
5-7 p.m. at the VFW Post 9094 Pavilion, located at 1000 West Main Street,
Hillsboro.
Officeholders and candidates from around the state and local Republican
officeholders will be present and introduced.
The event is open to the public and will feature a menu of pulled pork,
beef brisket, hot dogs and other picnic fare and desserts. A $10 donation is
suggested, and kids eat free.

SOPC Walk for Life Sept. 16
The Southern Ohio Pregnancy Center will hold its annual Walk for Life on
Saturday, Sept. 16. The two-mile walk will begin and end at the Center (135
W. Walnut, Hillsboro). Registration for Walkers begins at 8:30 a.m., and the
Walk will start at 9 a.m.
Those who cannot participate in person may donate money to be a "virtual

The annual Bike for Life (motorcycles) will begin Saturday, Sept. 16 at
10 a.m. Bikers will leave from the Center for a two-hour ride. Registration
will begin at 9:30 a.m., and the fee for registration will be a donation to
the SOPC.

Community Care Hospice
hosts 19th annual Golf Classic
Community Care Hospice is holding its 19th annual Golf Classic on Sept.
22 at Snow Hill County Club (11093 S.R. 73, New Vienna).
The day will begin with breakfast and registration at 7:45 am with a
shotgun start at 9 a.m. The day will conclude with lunch at noon and awards
at 2 p.m. The cost to register as an individual golfer is $95. To register
as a foursome, it is $350. Registration includes 18 holes of golf with a
cart, breakfast, lunch, drinks, and snacks. Proceeds benefit patient care

Lakeview Baptist Church
hosts songfest Aug. 26
Lakeview Baptist Church will host a gospel songfest featuring Kenny and
Cindy Taylor of Otway at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26.
The church is located at 6733 Inverness Court in the Rocky Fork Lake
area. Pastor Keith Perkins and the congregation welcome everyone to this
free concert.
Beggars' night Oct. 26
Trick or treat (beggars' night) will be observed in the City of
Hillsboro on Thursday, Oct. 26 during the hours of 6-8 p.m.
Board of Elections
The Highland County Board of Elections would like to notify the public
of its weekly meetings, to be held every Tuesday at 8 a.m. in the board
office until further notice. The public is welcome to attend.
HUBA meetings
The Hillsboro Uptown Business Association meetings are held at 8:30 a.m.
at the Highland County Administration Building in the basement room. The
dates for the 2023 meetings are: Sept. 12, Oct. 10 and Nov. 14. Anyone who
has a business or is interested in starting a business is welcome to join
HUBA at a meeting.
Senior food donations
The Highland County Church of Christ is giving out senior food boxes on
the third Friday of each month. These are boxes of canned and shelf-stable
items, plus cheese. To qualify, you must be age 60 or older; submit an
income form (to be filled out one time); and pick up your food box between
11 a.m.-1 p.m. on the third Friday of each month at 6670 U.S. Route 50 West,

HCCAO Board meeting dates announced
The Highland County Community Action Organization Governing Board will
meet in 2023 on the following dates: Sept. 26, Oct. 24, Nov. 28 and Dec. 26.
Brushcreek Township
trustees' meetings
The Highland County Brushcreek Township Trustees will hold the 2023
meetings for the entire fiscal year on the first and third Thursday of each
month at 7 p.m. The meetings are open to the public and will be held at 7 N.
Chestnut Street, Sinking Spring 45172.
HDH Board meetings
The Highland District Hospital Board of Governors meetings for 2023 will
be held on the last Wednesday of each month, January-November, at 7 p.m. in
the Education Room at Highland District Hospital. Meeting schedules for
specific committees can be obtained by contacting Melinda Russell at (937)

Hillsboro meetings
The City of Hillsboro has issued the following meeting schedule for
2023.
• City Council meets the Thursday after the second Monday of the month
at 7 p.m. at the Municipal Courtroom.
• The Planning Commission meets the third Monday of the month at 5:30
p.m. in the old firehouse on Governor Trimble Place.
• The Revolving Loan Fund committee has a quarterly meeting scheduled
for Nov. 15. Meetings are held at the City Building at 10 a.m.
• The Community Improvement Corporation meets the second Wednesday of
the month at 9 a.m. at the City Building.
• Meetings for the Records Commission and Civil Service Commission are
TBA.
Changes in schedule or special meetings must be published a minimum of
24 hours prior to meeting time.

Reformers Unanimous offers Christian support for all types of addiction

The Lynchburg Historical Society will be open on Tuesdays from 10 a.m.-2

New Life Church & Ministries
resumes food giveaway
New Life Church & Ministries, located at 6101 S.R. 247 in Hillsboro, has
resumed its weekly food giveaway. The food pantry will be offered every
Friday from 1-4 p.m. Individuals are asked to wait until after 10 a.m. at
the absolute earliest to get in line for the food giveaways.
