Movies Under the Stars
The City of Hillsboro has announced a revised schedule for their Movies
Under the Stars events at Crossroads Park. This is a free event for the
community to enjoy and will also feature the Poppy's Hot Dogs food truck.
Movies begin at dusk.
The updated schedule is:
• July 28, "Lightyear;"
• Aug. 4, "Jurassic World Dominion;"
• Aug. 11, "The Bad Guys."
HHS alumni golf outing Aug. 12
The Hillsboro High School Alumni Golf Outing will be held Aug. 12 at the
Hillsboro Elks golf course.
Tee times are available in the morning and afternoon. The cost is $300
per team.
Team and skill prizes, as well as raffle prizes, will be awarded, along
with a $10,000 hole-in-one prize. Lunch and dinner appetizers will be
provided. Hole sponsorships are available upon request for $100 (includes a
sign recognizing each sponsor located at tee box).

Retired Teachers Association to meet Aug. 7
The Highland County Retired Teachers Association (HCRTA) will meet at
noon Monday, Aug. 7 in the Hillsboro Church of Christ Fellowship Hall at 155
W. Walnut Street in Hillsboro. All retired educators are invited to attend
the meeting. The meal will feature a complete fiesta chicken meal provided
by members of the church and the cost is $14 per person.
The program will be presented by Tim Koehl, a local historian. He is an
excellent speaker and he will discuss the topic of The World Heritage
Designation is Coming to our Area.
The service project will be donations to the Ohio Mission Bible Training
Center at Rocky Fork Lake. Scholarship and other donations, meal

Veterans Golf Outing Aug. 5
The 12th annual Sgt. Morris (Moe) Newton Memorial Veterans Golf Outing
will be held Saturday, Aug. 5 at the Hillsboro Elks 361 golf course. The
golf outing is hosted by the Highland County Veterans Honor Guard and the
Hillsboro Elks and sponsored by the Sons of the American Revolution
Highlanders Chapter.
An Honor Guard memorial service will be held at noon, with tee times at
8 a.m. and 1 p.m. There will be three simultaneous events: a veterans open
foursome (with at least two veterans); an open foursome; and a coed foursome
(with at least one female or one male). The cost is $300 per team.
You may also sponsor a hole for $100. Make checks payable to the SAR
(Sons of the American Revolution) Highlanders Chapter. All proceeds will
benefit the Georgetown Veterans Home and the Highland County American
Revolutionary War Memorial.
The outing will include closest to the pin contest, longest putt
contest, first- and second-place awards for all three divisions, skins, hole
prizes, a chili cookoff and a 50/50 raffle. Food, snacks and nonalcoholic
drinks will be provided.

HCCAO golf outing Aug. 18
The Highland County Community Action Organization, Inc. will host their
17th annual golf outing on Friday, Aug. 18 at Buckeye Hills Country Club
located at 7261 Limes Road in Greenfield. Registration will open at 8 a.m.
They are just beginning to take reservations for teams and hole sponsors
and there are plenty of opportunities for your business to be represented at
the event as an event sponsor, corporate sponsor, team, hole or prize
sponsor.
Shotgun scramble time is 9 a.m. Registration fees include the greens fee
for 18 holes of golf on the beautiful course, a cart and a lunch provided by
All Seasons Catering. Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd place teams and
most honest. Great door prizes are also going to be given away. Golfers who
participate will also gain the satisfaction of knowing all proceeds go back
to the organization to help support those being served in Highland County.

scavenger hunt
The Highland County Historical Society is offering a great one with an
online scavenger hunt planned for Saturday, July 29 from 1-3 p.m. The cost
is $20 to register a team of no more than three people. Register at Highland
House, 151 East Main St., Hillsboro from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. the day of the
event.
Clues to 12 places in uptown Hillsboro will be sent by text message to
your phone. When you locate the clue, take a selfie of yourself with that
clue and text it to the given number.
The first entry to text all clues back correctly will win. Prizes will
also be awarded to second and third places. Meet back at Highland House by
3:30 p.m. to find out the winners, and watch the Historical Society¹s
Facebook for photos of the fantastic prizes.
The Historical Society is always trying new ideas in the community.

Beggars' night Oct. 26
Trick or treat (beggars' night) will be observed in the City of
Hillsboro on Thursday, Oct. 26 during the hours of 6-8 p.m.
Sardinia Historical
Society fundraiser Aug. 12
The Sardinia Historical Society began as informal gatherings of those
who had lived in the town for decades to share their stories among
themselves and with others. By 2014, it was organized with set meeting
times, elected officers and a project: to repair and refurbish the vintage
wrought-iron fence that graced the front of the Sardinia Village Cemetery.
With the help of fundraisers and donations, this project was completed
in 2015. Now, many of the monuments in the cemetery are in need of repair.
The society was able to have half the work completed in 2022. In order to
finish the project, the society will be fundraising at the Mt. Orab Kibler
Lumber grill out on Saturday, Aug. 12 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The society thanks
Kibler Lumber for this opportunity to raise funds and asks for your support
in stopping by for lunch that day.

St. Vincent dePaul Society
The St. Vincent dePaul Society of St. Mary Catholic Church in
Hillsboro will be holding their annual community rummage sale Friday, July
28 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, July 29 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the
Parish Hall at 119 E. Walnut St. in Hillsboro.
This is the major fundraiser for SVDP. All proceeds go to provide
assistance to individuals and families in the Hillsboro area who are
struggling financially.

Hillsboro Pool hosts
Community Youth Days
The Hillsboro Pool is pleased to continue Community Youth Days
throughout the 2023 season. Normally held each Wednesday, Community Youth
Day provides free entry to the first 30 youth patrons (ages 5-17, ages 4 and
younger are always free). The pool opens at 11 a.m., and the day will
include games and prizes. Check the pool website for updates at
www.hillsboroswim.com. The pool is located at 635 W. Main Street in
Hillsboro and offers both season passes and single-day entry.
Board of Elections
The Highland County Board of Elections would like to notify the public
of its weekly meetings, to be held every Tuesday at 8 a.m. in the board
office until further notice. The public is welcome to attend.
HUBA meetings
The Hillsboro Uptown Business Association meetings are held at 8:30 a.m.
at the Highland County Administration Building in the basement room. The
dates for the 2023 meetings are: Aug. 8, Sept. 12, Oct. 10 and Nov. 14.
Anyone who has a business or is interested in starting a business is welcome
to join HUBA at a meeting.
Senior food donations
The Highland County Church of Christ is giving out senior food boxes on
the third Friday of each month. These are boxes of canned and shelf-stable
items, plus cheese. To qualify, you must be age 60 or older; submit an
income form (to be filled out one time); and pick up your food box between
11 a.m.-1 p.m. on the third Friday of each month at 6670 U.S. Route 50 West,
Hillsboro.

HCCAO Board meeting dates announced
The Highland County Community Action Organization Governing Board will
meet in 2023 on the following dates: July 25, Aug. 22, Sept. 26, Oct. 24,
Nov. 28 and Dec. 26.
Brushcreek Township
trustees' meetings
The Highland County Brushcreek Township Trustees will hold the 2023
meetings for the entire fiscal year on the first and third Thursday of each
month at 7 p.m. The meetings are open to the public and will be held at 7 N.
Chestnut Street, Sinking Spring 45172.
HDH Board meetings
The Highland District Hospital Board of Governors meetings for 2023 will
be held on the last Wednesday of each month, January-November, at 7 p.m. in
the Education Room at Highland District Hospital. Meeting schedules for
specific committees can be obtained by contacting Melinda Russell at (937)

Hillsboro meetings
The City of Hillsboro has issued the following meeting schedule for
2023.
• City Council meets the Thursday after the second Monday of the month
at 7 p.m. at the Municipal Courtroom.
• The Planning Commission meets the third Monday of the month at 5:30
p.m. in the old firehouse on Governor Trimble Place.
• The Revolving Loan Fund committee has quarterly meetings scheduled for
the following dates: Aug. 16 and Nov. 15. Meetings are held at the City
Building at 10 a.m.
• The Community Improvement Corporation meets the second Wednesday of
the month at 9 a.m. at the City Building.
• Meetings for the Records Commission and Civil Service Commission are
TBA.
Changes in schedule or special meetings must be published a minimum of
24 hours prior to meeting time.
Reformers Unanimous
Reformers Unanimous offers Christian support for all types of addiction

Lynchburg Historical Society
The Lynchburg Historical Society will be open on Tuesdays from 10 a.m.-2
p.m. The Society is located at 151 S. Main Street near the police office.
New Life Church & Ministries
resumes food giveaway
New Life Church & Ministries, located at 6101 S.R. 247 in Hillsboro, has
resumed its weekly food giveaway. The food pantry will be offered every
Friday from 1-4 p.m. Individuals are asked to wait until after 10 a.m. at
the absolute earliest to get in line for the food giveaways.
