Amid surging gas prices, Rep. Walberg calls for Senate vote on H.R. 1

Michigan’s average gas prices are up 37 cents per gallon over the past month. According to AAA, the average price is $3.92 per gallon for regular unleaded gas, up from $3.76 last week, which was previously the record high for 2023.
In March, the House passed the Lower Energy Costs Act to provide desperately-needed relief for millions of Americans who cannot afford the surging energy prices brought on by regulations and the rush-to-green push from the Biden administration.
For well over four months, the Senate has denied Americans access to affordable, reliable, and abundant energy and families continue to suffer at the pump and with their monthly energy bill. Instead of unlocking our domestic energy resources and providing long-term solutions like House Republicans, Biden and Senate Democrat allies raided the emergency reserve to provide temporary relief without fixing the root causes they actively worsen.
With energy prices skyrocketing once again, it’s time for the Senate to vote on the Lower Energy Costs Act and let their constituents know if they support reliable and affordable energy.
Provisions of the Lower Energy Costs Act include:
• Reforming the permitting process to streamline federal reviews, including for essential energy infrastructure;
• Securing America’s critical minerals supply by increasing domestic production and processing of resources;
• Prohibiting the President from declaring a moratorium on the use of hydraulic fracturing;
• Repealing royalties and fee increases imposed on energy production that raise energy prices;
• Eliminating restrictions on the import and export of oil and natural gas; and
• Requiring the Department of the Interior to resume sales for the leasing of oil and gas resources on federal lands and water.
