Wildcats win SHAC game over Manchester

Trailing early on in their Southern Hills Athletic Conference game Tuesday night, the Whiteoak Wildcats continued to do what they’ve done most of the season, which is play clutch baseball and leave the diamond with a victory.
This time, the Wildcats trailed by two runs at the end of two innings, but by the time the third inning was completed they had scored five runs, as they took the lead and never looked back, defeating the visiting Manchester Greyhounds, 7-3.

Whiteoak (6-0, 11-1) took advantage of two errors to start the bottom of the third inning, allowing Chase Butler and Billy Oliver to reach the base paths safely. Traeten Hamilton loaded the bases on an intentional walk, and that brought Zach Harless to the plate. Harless finished the game 2-for-4 with one run and three RBI.
Having the bases loaded with no outs, Harless batted in both Butler and Oliver for the first two Wildcat runs of the game. Next came a fielder’s choice by Mason Lehr, scoring Hamilton, allowing the Wildcats to take a 3-2 lead.
WHS wasn’t finished as Ty Large — with one out — singled in Harless, and the final run of the inning came off a base hit by Trey Bogart (2-for-3 one RBI, one steal), allowing Lehr to cross home plate for the 5-2 advantage. Large ended the game 2-for-3 with one RBI, one walk and two steals.
“Zach Harless and Chase Butler led us to victory. Zach continues to swing a clutch bat for us, and Chase was his usual reliable self on the mound, displaying his ‘bulldog mentality,’” WHS head coach Chris Veidt said. “Trey Bogart and Ty Large added two hits apiece, and Trey has been very consistent for us offensively this year.”
The Wildcats added one run in the fourth with Hamilton scoring off an RBI groundout by Harless. In the sixth inning, Whiteoak had Lehr and Ryan Roberts score runs with one of the runs being batted in off a single by Butler.
Butler was the winning pitcher for the Wildcats in the SHAC contest. Again Manchester, Butler pitched a complete game, as in seven innings he allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks. Butler totaled seven strikeouts.
The Wildcats totaled 10 steals, with Hamilton having three, while Lehr and Large each totaled two steals. Having one steal in the win were Bogart, Butler and Oliver.
“Manchester was able to get two of their first three hitters on in the sixth with top of order coming up. Catcher Billy Oliver threw out an attempted base stealer, and Chase picked a runner off first to end the threat. Chase then retired the side in order on 10 pitches to seal the victory,” Veidt said.
