Wildcats unable to gain non-conference win against Georgetown

SEAMAN — The Whiteoak Wildcats played their second game in a span of less than 24 hours, and even after a physical game on Friday night, the Wildcats played tough Saturday afternoon against the Georgetown G-Men.
After holding on to a two-point halftime lead, WHS eventually lost the lead and the game in the second half, falling by a 48-40 score in non-conference action in the second game of the Coach Young Classic at North Adams High School. The loss sends the Wildcats to 4-8 overall, while Georgetown is 6-8 on the season.
Georgetown took the early lead at 5-0 following five points being scored by Nate Kratzer, including a three-point play, but the Wildcats answered with a jumper and three-point play by Carson Emery for a 5-5 score with 4:35 left in the game.

WHS continued the scoring with two baskets in the paint, plus a free throw — all by Brayden Yeager — for a 10-5 lead with 1:58 left in the opening quarter. Georgetown scored the final points of the first frame with a basket from Carson Miles.
Georgetown outscored the Wildcats, 7-6 with WHS holding onto the lead for nearly the entire second frame, but the G-Men began the scoring with a basket by Josh Galley. WHS answered with a basket by Landon Barnett at the 4:01 mark for a 12-9 advantage.
At the 3:09 mark of the second, Georgetown made it a one-point deficit with a jumper from Blake Tolle, but WHS came back with two points from Yeager — who led WHS with 13 points — for a three-point advantage. That three-point lead was erased with 1:53 left in the second off a trey by Galley.
Whiteoak ended the second quarter with a basket at the buzzer from Bradley Ashbaugh for a 16-14 halftime lead.
Georgetown doubled up the scoring effort of WHS in the third at 14-7 and took the lead at the 6:45 mark of the quarter with a three-point play from Tolle, followed by the G-Men making a jumper for a 19-16 lead.
Whiteoak didn’t lead for the rest of the third frame with a 3-pointer by Barnett, and two points each by Emery and Nick Bailey, for a score of 28-23 in favor of Georgetown. Emery finished with eight points, and Barnett totaled seven points.
The scoring between both teams was close in the fourth quarter at 20-17 in favor of the G-Men. The Wildcats’ fourth-quarter scoring consisted of six points by Yeager, five points by Josh Hughes, a 3-pointer by Bailey, two points by Barnett and one point from Carson Emery.
Other final scoring for the game for Whiteoak included Bailey and Hughes with five points each and Ashbaugh with two points.
Kratzer was Georgetown’s leading scorer with 12 points. As a team, the G-Men totaled 15 two-point baskets, two 3-pointers and they were 12-of-14 from the free-throw line.
Whiteoak finished the game with 14 two-point field goals, two 3-pointers, and they went 6-of-11 in their free-throw attempts.
Next for the Wildcats is a SHAC game on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at Fayetteville.
