Whiteoak Wildcats open season with loss at Piketon

The Whiteoak Wildcats boys basketball team lost their season opener to the Piketon Redstreaks on Saturday in a road loss by a 69-57 score at PHS.

The first quarter for the Wildcats was rough on the young team, as they trailed 21-8 after one complete quarter. Next came a much closer eight minutes in scoring, as the Wildcats were outscored by Piketon by a 15-14 score for a halftime deficit of 36-22.

In the second half, WHS led the third frame at 16-11, but the fourth quarter saw the away team outscored 22-19 in what became a 12-point non-conference loss.

For the game, the Wildcats were led by Bradley Ashbaugh with 14 points as he made three 3-pointers. Also for the Wildcats, Landon Barnett scored 11 points, and also in double figures was Nick Bailey with 10 points.

Others scoring points for WHS were Carson Emery with nine points, Garrett Miller with eight points and Brayden Yeager with five points.

Piketon was led in scoring by Levi Gullion with 21 points.

Next for the Wildcats in a non-conference game on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at home against Felicity.
