Whiteoak Wildcats lose on road at Peebles

Playing a rival in Division II of the Southern Hills Athletic Conference on Friday, Dec. 20, the Whiteoak Wildcats were defeated by the Peebles Indians in a SHAC showdown at PHS by a 62-40 score.
The Wildcats (1-2, 1-5) played close to the Indians early on with Whiteoak leading by three points at the end of the first frame by a 16-13 score. In the opening frame for WHS, Landon Barnett scored seven points (including a 3-pointer), plus the Wildcats had a 3-pointer from Bradley Ashbaugh and two points each from Carson Emery, Josh Hughes and Brayden Yeager.
Peebles led the second frame at 14-11, leaving the score tied at 27-27 when the first half came to a close.

In that second frame for Whiteoak, six points were scored by Hughes off three baskets, while teammate Barnett sank a 3-pointer, and with a two-point basket was Ashbaugh.
The second half wasn’t as strong for the Wildcats with them scoring eight points in the third, followed by a fourth quarter of five points.
Whiteoak’s third quarter consisted of three points by Barnett, while Yeager added three points and Hughes scored two points. WHS in the fourth quarter had two-point baskets from Ashbaugh and Yeager, plus a converted free throw by Bryce Bailey.
Peebles (2-2, 3-2) in the final two quarters scored 17 in the third frame and 18 in the fourth.
For the game, PHS totaled 14 two-point baskets, 10 3-pointers and they were 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.
Peebles was led in scoring by Dawson Mills with 21 points (five 3-pointers) and Hunter Ruckel with 17 points (three 3-pointers).
WHS was led by Barnett with 13 points, while also in double figures was Hughes with 10 points.
Whiteoak totaled 14 two-point baskets, three 3-pointers and they were 3-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Next for WHS is a SHAC game on Friday, Jan. 3 at the Fairfield Lions in a battle of two Highland County rivals.
