Whiteoak sweeps Saturday DH with Felicity

Saturday was twice as nice for the Whiteoak Wildcats in non-conference play as they won both sides of a home doubleheader against the Felicity-Franklin Cardinals by scores of 11-1 and 13-3.
In game one of the twin bill, the Wildcats defeated the Cardinals by 10 runs, with the 11-1 winning score beginning with a 3-1 lead after the first inning. From there, the Wildcats added one run in the second, five runs in the third and one run in both the fourth and fifth innings.
Chase Butler was the winning pitcher for the Wildcats in game one. He pitched five strong innings, allowing one earned run on just three hits and one walks. Butler finished with eight strikeouts, moving his pitching record to 1-2 on the season.
At the plate for WHS with two hits apiece were Traeten Hamilton (2-for-4, one run, one RBI, double), Evan Brill (2-for-3, two runs, triple), Casey Nace (one run, one RBI) and Mason Lehr (2-for-3, one run, two RBIs).
Finishing with one hit each were Trever Yeager (two runs, two RBIs, double) and Ryan Roberts (one run, two RBIs).
“Chase Butler earned his first varsity pitching win, and he got stronger as he went in an impressive start,” WHS head coach Chris Veidt said. “We also had an impressive offensive display from our team, and it was great to see guys five-through-nine in the order start to swing it well. Brill, Harless, Lehr and Roberts are looking comfortable at the plate.”
In the nightcap of the doubleheader on Saturday, the Wildcats won by 10 runs again, defeating Felicity-Franklin by a 13-3 score in six innings.
WHS kept the visitors scoreless for the first three innings, but on their home diamond the Wildcats scored one run in the first, followed with a three-run second and two-run third for a 6-0 lead after three innings.
In the fourth, the Cardinals added one run, while WHS matched that output in their half of the fourth for a 7-1 lead. In the fifth, the Wildcats added another three runs. The sixth inning saw Felicity-Franklin score two runs, but WHS didn’t blink, adding another three runs to their side, not only giving the Wildcats back-to-back three-run innings, but also the run-rule victory.
Ryan Roberts was the winning pitcher for WHS, pitching five innings. He allowed three earned runs on two hits and five walks. Roberts totaled eight strikeouts, moving his pitching record to 2-0 on the season.
Nace pitched one-third of an inning for WHS. He allowed no runs, no walks and one hit.
“We had a 3-2 week with some excellent competition,” Veidt said. “This team, although young, is maturing greatly with each game. Our best baseball is yet to come.
“Ryan Roberts had his second quality start in a row, which is great to see. Traeten Hamilton and Evan Brill finished with a nice offensive showing in both games. As a team (Saturday), we played great baseball in most phases of the game – offense, pitching and team defense.”
